Max Beckmann painted this view of the 'Parc de Bagatelle' in Paris in 1938, which he had visited in the same year. Beckmann chose a very unusual perspective for this painting. Edition transferred directly onto artist's canvas using the fine art giclée process and stretched onto a stretcher frame. Limited edition of 100 copies, numbered, with certificate. Their joint gallery owner Paul Cassirer already referred to Slevogt and Liebermann (alongside Lovis Corinth) as his 'German Impressionists'. In fact, the three were united by their respective proximity to the new French art movement and a great love of landscape painting in the open air. In 1908, they even met once at Cassirer's invitation in the Dutch summer resort. This was to be Slevogt's only visit to the region. Liebermann, however, was repeatedly drawn to Noordwijk over the years. He created numerous beach scenes there. Today, Slevogt and Liebermann's landscape paintings are regarded as highlights of Impressionist landscape painting. Original: 1909, oil on canvas, Kunstsalon Franke (loan) 1992, Cologne.
