Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Buste de Femme (Jacqueline)' (1963), framed
Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Buste de Femme (Jacqueline)' (1963), framed
According to a dictum that is not to be taken entirely seriously, Picasso changed his partners just as often as he changed his painting styles. That is saying something for one of the most versatile artists in art history, who shaped and influenced the styles and directions of an entire century. The fact is that women fascinated him all his life - also as the subject of his works - and he was fascinated by women all his life. His portraits and homages to femininity are countless. 'Buste de Femme (Jacqueline)': When Picasso met her, she was a ceramics saleswoman in Vallauris, where Picasso had been creating ceramic works since 1946 - and 46 years his junior. The artist portrays the 36-year-old as a full-blooded beauty and uses one of the oldest 'tricks' in art history to emphasise her eyes: Jaqueline, who looks straight ahead, follows the viewer, regardless of the angle at which they are standing in relation to the picture. 5-colour frequency-modulated reproduction on 250g fine art cardboard. Limited edition of 5,000 copies. Sheet size 98 x 66 cm (H/W). In solid wood frame with bevelled mat, glazed. Format 113 x 81 cm (H/W). © Succession Picasso / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn 2009, © Rosengart Collection, Lucerne.

Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Dora Maar' (1937), framed
Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Dora Maar' (1937), framed
In the 1930s, Picasso often portrayed the talented photographer Dora Maar, who challenged him intellectually and with whom he had a rather problematic relationship. Picasso was a quarter of a century older than Dora, he was still married to Olga Koklova and had just become the father of a daughter by Marie-Thérèse Walter. Dora Maar was one of the few creative women in Picasso's circle and was even considered his intellectual equal. She assisted him while he was painting 'Guernica' - some of the brushstrokes are hers. In the portrait named after her, Dora Maar is depicted both en face and in profile, her ear glued to her eye and her mouth wearing a harmless little smile. The material value of the original is in the tens of millions. Frequency-modulated reproduction in six colours on 250g Zerkall handmade paper. Limited edition of 1,000 copies. © Succession Picasso, Paris 2014 Photo: Musée Picasso, Paris / Bridgeman Images. Motif size 74 x 52.5 cm (H/W). Sheet size 80 x 60 cm (H/W). Framed in solid wood frame with bevelled mat, glazed. Format 96 x 74.5 cm (H/W).

Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Guernica' (1937), framed
Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Guernica' (1937), framed
In January 1937, the government of the Spanish Republic asked Picasso, who had been living in Paris for more than three decades, to contribute to the Spanish pavilion at the World Exhibition that was to be held in Paris that year. Six months earlier, the Spanish Civil War had broken out. After some preliminary studies, Picasso finally set to work in May. Something decisive had happened in the meantime: On 30 April 1937, German warplanes had destroyed the small town of Guernica, killing more than 1600 people. Picasso therefore chose a completely new approach: his contribution was to be a monumental painting depicting the horrors of war in stark black and white contrasts. 'Guernica', Picasso's largest painting ever at 3.49 x 7.77 metres, is as contemporary as it is visionary: the bombing of Guernica may have been the occasion, but today the painting has a far greater impact as a bitter premonition of the wars of the 20th century and as an indictment of war in general. 'Guernica' acquired immediate symbolic power and was exhibited in many places until it found its place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Following Picasso's instructions, it only came to Spain after the end of the Franco dictatorship - it has been in Madrid since 1981. Picasso himself, however, never set foot on Spanish soil again. Original: 1937, oil on canvas, 349.3 x 776.6 cm, Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid. 5-colour frequency-modulated reproduction on 260g Rives laid paper. Limited edition of 1,000 copies. Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Head of a reading woman', framed
Pablo Picasso: Picture 'Head of a reading woman', framed
In terms of art history, the motif of the reading woman is highly prevalent. There are countless paintings in which a noble lady or bourgeois woman lowers her eyes shyly into a prayer book as a sign of her deep piety. None of this is the case with Picasso: his reader is a modern, self-confident woman who - apparently also aware of her erotic charisma - is highly focussed on her reading. © Pablo Picasso - by SIAE 1999 Maestri Della Pittura. High-quality edition in fine art giclée process on paper. Framed in a handmade, black and gold-coloured solid wood frame with dustproof glass. Format approx. 86 x 66 cm (H/W).
