Klimt mostly designed his paintings as allegories of life. The wild red poppy symbolises passion, happiness and the fragility of life and love. Klimt's colourful and detailed depiction of an early summer meadow shows the great portraitist to be a first-rate depictor of nature. And where in many of his portrait paintings a wealth of colour and obsession with detail appears as lavish decoration, here Klimt places his attention to the smallest detail at the service of a sprouting nature that needs no further decoration. Klimt's unforgettable landscape orgy: among the 230 or so paintings by Art Nouveau master Gustav Klimt, there are more than 50 landscape paintings - always square masterpieces in which he celebrates the landscape around Lake Garda and Lake Attersee, which he loved and visited again and again, in vibrant colours. They are often characterised by unusual perspectives. His 'Waldabhang' shows Lake Attersee itself, but at the same time allows a view of the village and mixed forest that tower over it like a mosaic. Original: oil on canvas. High-quality reproduction using the fine art giclée process, laminated on artist's canvas and traditionally stretched on a wooden frame. The special surface finish and the visible linen structure emphasise the painting-like effect. In a sophisticated black gallery frame with a golden inner edge. Limited edition of 499 copies, with numbering and certificate on the reverse. Format 68 x 68 cm. Exclusively at ars mundi.
Klimt usually designed his paintings as allegories of life. The lush garden landscape under the Mediterranean sun, for example, symbolises life itself - a colourful garden in which the most beautiful flowers sprout in unexpected places. Klimt chose the square format so that the aura of the painting could unfold evenly in all directions. Original: oil on canvas, Kunsthaus Zug. For a brilliant, authentic reproduction, the original was transferred directly onto an artist's canvas made of 100% cotton using the fine art giclée process and mounted on a stretcher frame. Limited edition of 499 copies, numbered on the reverse. In sophisticated black and gold gallery framing with a matt patina. Format 75 x 75 cm. Exclusively at ars mundi.
The Old Testament tells the story of the beautiful and God-fearing widow Judith, who enters the army camp of Nebuchadnezzar's general Holofernes unarmed and beheads him with her own sword - a popular motif in art history. Klimt's famous 'Golden Judith' is a modern 'femme fatale' who could cost many a man his head with her charms. Original: oil on canvas, Österreichische Galerie Belvedere, Vienna High-quality reproduction in fine art giclée process, worked by hand on canvas and stretched on stretcher. Limited edition of 499 copies. In handmade gallery framing. Format 73 x 37 cm (H/W). Exclusively at ars mundi.
The 'Lady with Fan' is one of Klimt's last two paintings. The painting was still on the artist's easel in his studio when Klimt died. It realised over 10 million US dollars at an auction in 1994. Almost 30 years later, in June 2023, it went up for auction again and was sold in London for £85.3 million - the highest bid ever achieved for a Klimt painting and also the highest ever achieved for a painting at a European auction, belonging to Klimt's 'Golden Style'. Inspired by Byzantine mosaics, he inserted ornamental areas of colour into a golden bed like set gemstones. His depictions of bodies possess a subtle eroticism, their figures dissolving into ornamental but also geometric areas of colour. The 'Lady with Fan' wears a wide, kimono-like dress adorned with motifs of a Chinese dragon robe. Asian motifs cover the background. Behind the head of the 'Wally' a phoenix can be seen, its tail feathers looking like an extension of the hairstyle, next to it a heron or crane and lotus blossoms.the phoenix is a symbol of immortality and rebirth. In China, it symbolises good luck and loyalty, just like the heron, while the crane stands for a happy old age. In the Chinese tradition, the lotus blossoms can be interpreted as a symbol of love and a happy marriage; in Buddhism, they stand for the teachings of Buddha and are generally a symbol of purity.Original: 1917/18, oil on canvas, privately owned. Painting as a brilliant reproduction in fine art giclée process on artist canvas made of 100% cotton, on stretcher frame. Limited edition of 499 copies. Gold-coloured manufactory real wood framing. Format approx. 77 x 77 cm.

In addition to his portraits from the 'golden period', it was above all his atmospheric, mostly squarely composed landscape paintings with which Gustav Klimt decisively characterised Viennese Art Nouveau. The idyllic landscapes, villages and buildings of Lake Attersee and Lake Garda in particular inspired him to create his most beautiful paintings Original: 1914, oil on canvas, 110 x 110 cm, Vienna, Österreichische Galerie im Belvedere Edition transferred directly onto artist's canvas using the fine art giclée process and stretched onto a stretcher frame. View over Lake Attersee: Gustav Klimt's pointillist landscape paintings are now classics of early Expressionism. Works like this rarely reach the art market: the original was auctioned in New York in November 2011 for the equivalent of around 30 million euros - to an art lover from Zurich. This makes Klimt's view over Lake Attersee his second most valuable landscape painting after the 'Church in Cassone'. Moved by a lyrical feeling for nature, he captured his motifs through a telescope, condensing and abstracting them into works of timeless modernity. Original: oil on canvas, privately owned. The Austrian painter Gustav Klimt only discovered landscape painting in his late work. One of his many journeys took Klimt to Lake Garda in Italy in 1913. It was here that he painted this view of the town of Malcesine with its densely packed houses and a small harbour. As in many of his landscape paintings, Klimt also stuck to a square format here. This framing also meant that he only depicted the walls and the lower part of the tower of a castle that significantly characterises the image of the town. For the perspective depicted, the painter would actually have had to be on a boat. However, as it is known that Klimt often used a telescope for his landscape observations, it is also possible that he was looking at Malcesine from a great distance.Original: 1913, oil on canvas, burnt at Immendorf Castle in Lower Austria in 1945.
