One year after he presented 'The Harbour of Dieppe', also painted in 1826, at the Royal Academy, William Turner exhibited his work 'Cologne'. As a former Roman colony during the Holy Roman Empire, the free imperial city of Cologne had long been an important centre of trade, education and religion. When he visited, the city was still largely characterised by medieval architecture. Original: 1826, oil on canvas, 168.6 x 224.2 cm, The Frick Collection, New York. Edition transferred directly onto artist's canvas using the fine art giclée process and stretched onto a stretcher frame. Limited edition of 980 copies, numbered, with certificate. Framed in a handcrafted, gold-coloured solid wood frame. Format 62 x 79 cm (H/W). ars mundi exclusive edition.
