The three most famous German Impressionists Lovis Corinth, Max Liebermann and Max Slevogt all shared a love of nature and plein-air painting. As the driving forces behind the Berlin Secession, they revolutionised art during the German Empire. In 1917, Slevogt was put in charge of a master studio for painting at the Academy of Arts in the capital. In addition to his stage designs, he focussed particularly on landscape painting.
