Product information "Marc Chagall: Picture 'Bouquet de Renoncules' (1968), version framed in silver colour"
For Picasso, he was the undisputed master of colour, following in the footsteps of Renoir. He was also a great storyteller: Marc Chagall's work, with its imagery often fuelled by his roots in rural Eastern European Judaism, tells stories and speaks directly to the emotions of the viewer. The 'Bouquet de Renoncules' from 1968 is considered to be the artist's declaration of love to his second wife Valentina Brodsky. The farmhouse and fruit basket on the left refer to his home in Vitebsk in present-day Belarus, and it is probably also significant that Chagall has the iconographically obvious red rose surrounded by a wreath of yellow buttercups - the flower that gives the work its title can be found in many peasant gardens.
