Lovis Corinth: Picture 'Flower vase on a table' (1922), framed

Product information "Lovis Corinth: Picture 'Flower vase on a table' (1922), framed"

Corinth's late work is of particular importance. Firstly, there are the Walchensee paintings, which were created from 1919 onwards near Urfeld in the south of Munich and in which the painter rediscovered landscape painting for himself. But he also sought and found new approaches in other subjects, such as portraits. The painting 'Flower Vase on a Table' from 1922 shows how another classic subject developed in his later years. A good decade earlier, he had created still lifes on canvas that still clearly emphasised their reference to the Old Masters and came in deep, Rembrandt-like shades of brown. Here, however, is a watercolour with dabbed, exploding colours and a scene that offers a private view of the still life genre. The edges of the picture framing the bouquet of flowers show an armchair on the right and a dog nestled in its basket on the left; in short, we see a retreat that promised the painter peace and relaxation.
