Product information "Emil Nolde: Picture 'Sea with two small steamers (red, blue and green)', version framed in black and silver colour"
'Colours were my happiness, I felt as if they loved my hands'. With these words, Emil Nolde described his art, which, after difficult beginnings, was to make him one of the most important painters of the 20th century. His work with bright, vibrant colours characterises his works on canvas, but even more so his famous watercolours. Nolde is regarded as a 'magician' who intuitively understood how to lend his motifs an expressive colour dramaturgy of great emotional impact. The depicted motif and the chosen colour composition are of equal importance, as emphasised by the title 'red, blue and green' in the watercolour presented here. Nolde thus proves himself to be a highly modern artist, ahead of his time, whose works were still perceived as avant-garde and groundbreaking in post-war Germany (and so, consequently, a selection of Nolde's works was prominently represented at each of the first three documenta exhibitions - in 1955, 1959 and 1964). High-quality fine art giclée museum edition in original size, pigment colours on Hahnemühle genuine laid watercolour paper. Limited edition of 199 copies, numbered, with certificate.
