In 1916, Edvard Munch (1863-1944) bought the Ekely property, formerly a market garden in the Oslo suburb of Skøyen. Here Munch had enough space to work, and he lived here until the end of his life. Munch's extensive and colourful artistic work from this phase is also an expression of the favourable working conditions under which he worked at Ekely. Some of his most famous paintings were created during this time. 'Apple Tree at the Studio': Original: oil on canvas, Munch-Museet, Oslo.
