August Macke was inspired to create a series of works by the spectacular tightrope performances of the Swiss artist family Ludwig Knie on the Rathausplatz in Thun. He made sketches on site and created watercolours and oil paintings on this theme in his studio. The artist captures the balancing act in expressive colours and an exciting composition of rising and falling lines. Original: around 1913, oil on canvas, private collection. Reproduction in fine art giclée process on artist's canvas, mounted on stretcher frame and framed in solid wood. Limited edition of 499 copies, numbered on the reverse. Format 65 x 50 cm (H/W).
