'He gave colour the brightest and purest sound before all of us,' Franz Marc called out to August Macke when he fell in 1914. They had been close friends. Macke had discovered some of Marc's lithographs during a visit to Munich in 1910 and sought contact with him. In the same year, he accepted Marc's invitation to come to Lake Tegernsee, where he created his 'Sailboats'. Original: 1910, oil on canvas, Albertina, Batlingen Collection. Reproduced using the fine art giclée process, transferred directly to artist's canvas and mounted on a stretcher frame. Limited edition of 499 copies, with numbering and certificate on the reverse.
